DERTHONA BASKET REVEALS ITS SECRETS AT AN ABSORBING TEAM-BUILDING SESSION
At Derthona Basket’s newly built, futuristic home at the Cittadella dello Sport in Tortona, Riccoboni Holding’s production and logistics teams attended a special team-building session.
The two groups of 10 people were welcomed at Derthona Basket’s facility for a team experience.
This team-building session was designed to use the dynamics of sport to improve communication, trust, collaboration and achieving common goals, turning simple individual exercises into complex group strategies through progressive training, role-play on court and using the metaphor between the playing court and working environment, promoting a sense of belonging and overcoming challenges.
The two groups were given the opportunity to test out styles of play on the court where Derthona Basket’s professionals train supervised by two assistant coaches of the Head Coach, Mario Fioretti.
These tactics showed that basketball is a team sport where in order to win, you cannot rely purely on individuals. You win as a team and, in particular, by communicating between players and between the coach and players.
The teams were able to understand that in basketball, as in business, the most important thing is to achieve the result.
To achieve a result, whatever it may be, means winning. You have to do everything you can to win; you have to give your all to win. If you give your all, every result will work out well; if you give your all, you will often win.
The teams were also able to breathe in the sweet air of success by visiting the arena where Derthona Basket’s home games take place, which Riccoboni Holding supports as one of their sponsors.
The Head Coach, Mario Fioretti, came up with a highly comprehensive one-hour masterclass to explain and crack the concept of victory for the two teams, having joined Derthona after a long and illustrious career as an assistant at Olimpia Milano (since 2003), where he won many titles (6 Scudetti, 4 Coppe Italia and 5 Supercoppe) alongside great coaches, gaining 20 years’ experience in Italy and working in the USA when he was younger.
Thanks to his analysis, the teams were able to understand that it is wrong to think that a coach’s priority is just purely having to win. Creating the right mindset is a highly important and significant step in a coach’s job. A coach is not simply the person who gets players into a shooting position, but rather teaches them how to do it, to read situations, to understand potential and to keep the team balanced.
Mario Fioretti addressed team management as being about performing under pressure, the importance of attention to detail, preparing for the game and studying post-match statistics.
