RICCOBONI SUPPORTS THE NEW PARMA ONCOLOGY CENTRE

Scientific research also plays a part in fighting cancer. As part of spreading the Christmas spirit, the Riccoboni Group is therefore proud to support the “Spazio alla ricerca” project [Space for Research] by the Parma University Hospital, which will really change the game by creating a large laboratory for translational research at the new Oncology Centre. This space, designed to further explore and strengthen the lines of research already up and running at the Medical Oncology Unit, will serve as a benchmark for studying and developing increasingly effective and personalised treatments.

A cutting-edge laboratory for cancer research

The new laboratory, located on the basement level of the Oncology Centre, has been designed to meet the most advanced requirements of cancer research. Here, researchers will be able to further examine studies already under way, focused on three key areas:

  1. Molecular characterisation of tumours: detailed analysis of the genetic and molecular alterations that lead to the development and progression of cancer, essential for identifying new therapeutic targets.
  2. Liquid biopsy: an innovative technique that allows us to monitor the disease through a simple blood test, reducing invasiveness and improving diagnostic precision.
  3. Resistance mechanisms to molecular targeted therapies: studying the processes that cause tumours to become drug-resistant, so we can develop strategies that are able to overcome these barriers.

Innovative technologies for personalised medicine

The laboratory will not only be home to the instruments already in use at the Medical Oncology Laboratory, but it will also be enhanced by new cutting-edge technologies, notably including the flow cytometer, an instrument that allows us to analyse patients’ immune system in detail. Thanks to this technology, it will be possible to identify therapeutic response biomarkers, pinpointing specific signs that help to predict how effective a treatment will be and to optimise treatment choices, as well as to stratify patients based on their immunological characteristics, therefore personalising cures and improving clinical results while at the same time reducing side effects. This approach is an essential step towards increasingly customised medicine, where every patient can benefit from targeted and more effective treatments.

Riccoboni: working alongside research for a cancer-free future

Supporting this project means believing in the power of science and in the possibility of offering more and more people real hope of recovery. Having always focused on people’s well-being and scientific progress, the Riccoboni Group is proud to help create this laboratory, which serves as a bridge between basic research and clinical practice.

Thanks to this kind of space, results obtained in the laboratory can be fast-tracked to becoming new treatment opportunities for patients, speeding up the process that leads from scientific discoveries to their real-world applications.
